Madison County Schools Ranks Highest Among Large A-Rated Districts
Madison County Schools celebrates earning the highest score in Mississippi among large school districts on state testing. An A-rated district once again for 2024, Madison County Schools has earned an A rating every year since the letter-grade scoring system was implemented by the state. This year marks the eleventh consecutive A grade for the district. MCS is the largest district in the top 10 high-scoring districts and the only one with multiple high schools. Campus-level performance in the district tops even last year’s record high, with every school in Madison County Schools earning either an A or B rating once again in 2024.
“Our outstanding students, teachers, staff, and administrators have once again knocked it out of the park by earning such a high A rating! We are very proud of these excellent results, especially the news that every school in our district has earned an A or a B school-level grade for the second year in a row,” said Madison County Schools Superintendent Ted Poore. “Earning a strong A, especially as a large district, reinforces that our students in all four attendance zones are mastering the content and knowledge needed for academic success. These results truly are testament to the dedication of our teachers in preparing students and our administrators in making sure teachers and students at every campus in our district have the support they need to succeed.”
Highlights of the 2024 results include Madison Middle School earning the highest score in the state among all middle schools. Shirley D. Simmons Middle School and East Flora Elementary School achieved A ratings for the first time in school history, and Madison Avenue Lower Elementary and Madison Station Elementary rank among the top ten scoring elementary schools. All 11 MCS elementary campuses earned an A rating, solidifying the district’s overall record high score.
The Mississippi Department of Education released the grade-level scores of districts and schools across the state at their Board meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
