• School Board Meetings

    Madison County School District

Board meetings are typically scheduled for the first Monday of the month. All official meetings of the Board shall be open to the public.

Anyone wishing to speak before the Board, representing either himself individually or a group, should, at least eight (8) working days prior to the Board meeting, make a written request directed to the Board Secretary (addressed to Ellen Aregood at earegood@madison-schools.com) of his desire to speak to the Board and also provide in the same request a detailed statement of his topic.  The Board, by majority, may allow visitors who have not presented a written request an opportunity to present statements to the Board.  Unless an extension of time is granted by the Board, a speaker shall limit his presentation to five minutes.  Any individual desiring to speak shall give his name, address, and the group, if any, that he is representing.

Speakers may offer objective evaluations of school programs.  The Board will not hear personal complaints about particular students, school personnel, nor against any person or entity connected with the District.  Other channels are available for the disposition of such complaints through the Superintendent or the Board.

Anyone making such presentations is encouraged to present his statements in writing, with adequate copies for distribution to all Board members.  Board action, if any is necessary, on a person's public request shall be made only after the individual or group has completed its statement to the Board and concluded its participation in the meeting and the Board has had sufficient time to study and consider the information provided, any proposal, or to investigate or review such matters, which may be well after adjournment of the meeting in which the presentation is made.

The Board reserves the right to take matters under advisement or to go into executive session to hear all or part of the statement by a person or group.

If, in the judgment of the presiding officer of the Board, any person disturbs a Board meeting, the presiding officer may ask the person to leave the meeting or else have him removed. Anyone failing to abide by the chairman's request and continuing to disturb the board meeting may be arrested and possibly fine.
