I'm so excited to have you /your child in my classroom this year. 2018-2019 is going to be such a great year to be a 7th grader at Madison Middle School! Please remember to check the Homework Blog to the left for up-to-date assignments and due dates.
About the Teacher
My name is Kate Boteler, and this is my 9th year to be on staff at Madison Middle School. I have been teaching 6th and 7th grade Reading and Language Arts for almost 12 years. I was born and raised in Canton, Mississippi. I attended Canton Academy from 1st-12th grade, and after graduation, I attended The University of Mississippi where I studied English Literature. Before I began my teaching career, I attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and worked in Children's Ministry. In January of 2010, I married Brad Boteler and we live in Madison. Brad teaches U.S. History and is the Head Tennis Coach at Madison Central, so we are a family of Jags! We are members of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. I am a member of the Madison County Chapter of Chi Omega Alumni. I like to READ (surprise!), decorate, and play board games with friends. I also love college football (and sports in general!)
I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2014 and am hoping to complete coursework from Mississippi College for my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in December 2019. I love literature, especially children's and adolescent literature, and am so lucky to be able to teach something that I'm so passionate about personally. My goal is for every child that I teach to grow in their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills, as well as in their love for reading and writing.
In addition to teaching Regular and Accelerated 7th Grade English/Language Arts, I will be coordinating an ACT Prep Program for MMS this year, and I help with Student Council, mainly by coordinating our Relay for Life Event and fundraising efforts.
