My name is ShaTequa Hughes. I am so excited to be joining the team at Highland where I will be teaching 4th grade ELA and Social Studies.I graduated from Jackson State University with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in May 2015 and again with my Master’s in Reading Education in May 2019. This is my first year at Highland, but my 9th year teaching. I have taught both 2nd and 4th grades over the course of my career.
Outside of teaching, my world revolves around my two children MJ and Maison. Additionally, some of my favorite things to do are reading, shopping, traveling, watching my favorite TV shows, and spending time with my family.
I decided to become a teacher because I love working with children and helping to prepare such bright minds for the future. My ultimate goal is to pour into my students, push them to reach their full potential, and encourage each of my students to love school and learning! I’m excited about this school year. I want each of my students to enjoy my class and learn tons of new and exciting things about reading, writing, grammar, and the world around us. My door is always open for both students and parents, so feel free to reach out to me at any time regarding any questions or concerns. I’m here for you! Let’s make this an awesome year!
