• Welcome

    Dear Students and Families,

My name is Ms. Gatson, and I am beyond excited to welcome you all into this 2023-2024 school year! You will get to meet me soon in person, but I wanted to share a little bit about myself. I graduated from the University of Mississippi (2020) with a Bachelor of Social Work and The University of Southern Mississippi (2022) with a Masters in Social Work. Throughout the first year of my professional career, I served as a Mental Health Therapist and Behavioral Specialist. Now, I am a first year educator and will be teaching Learning Strategies and assisting with coaching cheer, here at Shirley Simmons Middle School. In my previous career, I developed a profound love and passion for education, so much that I chose to go back to school and obtain a second Master's degree in Teaching.

I look forward to collaborating with each of you to aid in growing students and ensuring that they are able to be provided with the necessary resources and tools to achieve academic success. My goal is to promote a safe space where there is motivation to learn and resilience to overcome mistakes (because that's how we learn) for all students!

This year will be an adventure! I hope that everyone is just as excited as I am to thrive throughout the school year.

    Best,

    Ms. Gatson, Learning Strategies Teacher
