Welcome!
My name is Carmen Williams and this is my 4th year at Germantown High School! I am most known for my love of Chemistry, but I also hope I'm known for my passion for teaching teenagers and my dedication to brightening their futures. I love chemistry for many reasons. My first chemistry class in high school was known for being a drastic GPA dropper as the teacher was notorious for hosting an extremely difficult class full of hard questions and bleeding red ink papers. But his tenacity and intense teaching style is what fostered my love of the subject. Like many of your children, I was the "why" kid. Through that question, I was not trying to be disrespectful, but I desperately needed to know why certain phenomena were observed. Chemistry helped me answer that question one class at a time.
I graduated from East Rankin Academy and moved on to Mississippi State University where I, like many others, changed my mind and major half a dozen times. I was always trying to balance my love for chemistry and math, and my desire to work in a field where I help others. I finished out my four years there with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry with a focus on pre-med. Those four years were some of the best. I cherish the memories, experiences, classes, and even the endless study sessions. I continued my education at Mississippi College, where I was first aimed at a Masters in Medical Sciences to prepare me for my journey to Medical School. After an injury that caused me to take my first semester off since kindergarten, I was able to reflect on my passions and pray about my future, and change my Masters focus to Chemistry. My time at MC was also some of the best. I was able to study under the extremely intelligent and kind Dr. David Magers, Calculating Enthalpies of Formation of Cyano Derivatives using various computational methods. I was also able to kickstart my teaching career, teaching General Chemistry 1 and 2 Labs, Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 Labs, Introduction to Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry, and Chemistry in American Life.
I began my high school career at GHS in 2019 and taught Honors Chemistry and Academy of Healthcare Excellence Chemistry, where I fell in love with my Maverick family. I married my best friend, Devin Williams, in the fall of 2020 and joined him in Washington in 2021 to finish out his military career. We moved back to central Mississippi in 2023 to welcome our precious baby girl, Emory, into the world, where we have stayed ever since. I rejoined my Maverick family in fall of 2023 where I am the Ap Chemistry teacher and Honors Chemistry teacher.
I sincerely love my job and my kids. I try to foster an environment where they are free to ask questions, explore their scientific minds, grow both educationally and emotionally, and learn to respect each other.
For my classes, all information can be found on Canvas or AP Classroom (ap chem only).
