To Parents and Students of Shirley D. Simmons Middle School:
My name is Thomas F. Adams, Jr. and I am excited to serve as the principal of Shirley D. Simmons Middle School. This is indeed an amazing opportunity. I am entering into my 15th year in education and my 8th year in administration. My administrative experience is exclusively at the middle school level. I have had the distinguished opportunity to serve as 7th and 8th-grade assistant principal at both Columbus and Madison Middle schools. This year I am looking forward to serving as your principal!
Our focus at Shirley Simmons Middle School will be on student achievement, teacher growth, and parental involvement. Each student will be pushed to reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. We will need the support of parents, community members, and stakeholders to achieve this goal. My background includes youth ministry, school administration, mentorship programs, and community advocacy groups. I have a passion for student achievement and a vested interest in seeing our students at their best.
We want to approach each day with a “3 P Approach”. This includes being Present, Prepared, and Professional (Respectful). This simply means that we are going to push the students to be the best version of themselves each day. Please help us in making sure they are present each day, prepared to learn, and respectful of themselves and others. Everything we do will be based on those three non-negotiables.
Our parents and community members are a vital part of student achievement. Our commitment is to be available to parents and work with our stakeholders throughout the year. Our upcoming events will be available online. You can access your student’s grades through ActiveParent and our teachers will be available to meet with you to address any concerns. Please call our main office at 601.855.2406 to arrange a conference.
Working together, I know this will be a great school year!
Sincerely,
Thomas F. Adams, Jr.
