A Little about me:
I am originally from Batesville, MS but moved to the Delta (Greenville, MS) when I was in 3rd grade. We just moved to the Madison area last year. I have one daughter who will be a 6th grader this year. I am a graduate from Delta State University. I also studied abroad at Istanbul Technical University in Turkey, where I studied painting, drawing, and made a documentary-style film while there. I have been teacher of the year 3 times and district teacher of the year once throughout my many years of teaching. I have been teaching for 15 years and this is my second year at Germantown Middle School. I am very excited about the art program we are creating at GMS. The students here are incredibly talented and have so much creativity.
My expectations in the classroom:
Students are expected to work hard each day (we work bell to bell) and to always try their best. The expectation for each student is they learn, grow, and explore different art mediums and techniques as we advance through the year. I never expect perfection but I do expect hard work and growth throughout the year. Some student are nervous about art and they are unsure of their skills and abilities, especially when using methods or materials they have never used before. I will be their every step of the way to guide, encourage, and help students through the process. Students will learn to problem-solve and gain confidence in being successful through practice and finished pieces or artwork. Everything we do in class will be posted in canvas and students have access to tutorial videos, examples of finished artwork, written instruction, and I record videos with visual and verbal instructions as well so if a student is absent or gets behind on assignments everything they need can be found on canvas. I am here to help, guide, and encourage your child through this school year. If you ever have any question or concern please reach out to me. I will be sending a text at the beginning of the year, and you are welcome to text me anytime on that number, you can also email, and of course you can always contact me through the school office.
THANK YOU!!! so much for sharing your child with me this year, I am so excited to be a MAV and it is an honor to work with such amazing parents and students. MAV parents are the BEST!!!
