My name is Gena Holley, and I am excited to be serving as Madison Station’s math specialist again this year! This school year, my time is split among Madison Avenue Upper, Mannsdale Upper, and Station. I can be found at MSE each Wednesday and every third Thursday.
Nearly half of my 26-year education career has been with Madison County Schools. Before becoming a math specialist, I was a classroom teacher for 23 years. I’ve taught at Olde Towne Middle, Mannsdale Elementary, Mannsdale Upper Elementary, and I’ve spent the last three years as a math specialist at various schools across our great district! Before joining the MCS family, I worked in Pearl Public Schools and also in the North Pike School District.
My husband, Hal, is a graduate of Madison County Schools. Hal and I live in Madison with our 10-year-old son, Ray. Ray attends Mannsdale Upper Elementary School. He keeps us busy with soccer, baseball, and piano. When we aren’t at one of Ray’s many activities, you can find our family at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church where we are active members.
As you might imagine, I love math! I love making math fun for kids and helping teachers find new and innovative ways to teach math to their students. I encourage parents to speak positively to their children about math and to not be afraid to “math” with their children at home - - count, cook, measure, play games!
