    Welcome to English Learners

    and

“Bonjour " et "Bienvenue” to students of French

After having lived and worked in France for over 25 years, and using French as my everyday language, I'm glad for the opportunity to teach in Madison County Schools and most particularly at Rosa Scott. In the past I've taught French in the Desoto County School system and English to international students in the Intensive English Program at Mississippi College. While living in France, I taught English, and throughout Europe I led workshops in language acquisition techniques. I've studied language acquisition and methodology for many years. You will probably find me to be passionate about helping people learn a language.

Students who speak a language other than English will use different strategies in order to learn to better commujnicate in English. I arrived in France not speaking the language and having a child in school. I know what it feels like to be a language learner and to have a child in school not speaking the language. I'm looking forward to helping our "speakers-of-other languages" students develop and progress in using English language skills.

French students will also use different strategies in order to learn to communicate in French. We will also link French culture with history, math, science, the arts, and sports. One of the goals I have for my students is that no student can honestly leave French I saying that he/she doesn’t speak and understand basic French.
