Who are the Ridgeland Marine Titans?
Welcome! We are an after school interest club dedicated to the study of Marine Biology, Reefing, ocean conservation and safe aquarium keeping.  We learn the basics of marine biology and study the animals we keep in our 4 aquariums throughout the school. Our club sponsor-Mrs. McGuffey- is in room B115 and has a 75gallon reef tank and a 40 gallon freshwater tank. Our library has a 40 gallon saltwater tank and Mrs. Dauner B204 has a 14 gallon nano saltwater tank in her math class. We do all of the maintenance on these tanks as well as maintain their livestock. In our study of ocean organisms we do perform some dissections as well as study their behaviors. We will also go to the Mississippi Natural Science Museum to tour their aquarium systems and learn how to record field data using freshwater fish in their ox-bow lake. All of this prepares us for our final trip to the Souther Miss Gulf Coast Research Lab where we spend 2 days researching and comparing the "beach" ecosystem to the barrier island (yes we go to the barrier islands).
A Word From Your Club Sponsor:

Hello! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your student this year. I am Mrs. McGuffey and  am a graduate of Mississippi State University where I got my bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in biology. This is my 5th year teaching at OTMS and 2nd year sponsoring the Marine Ttians Club. I am married and my husband is in medical school at UMC. We LOVE to travel, hike, snorkel, work outside and be with family and friends. I have a passion for teaching and reefing; in fact teaching is the reason I got into reefing/marine biology. Marine Bio is a very active subject, so I hope you are ready to learn and get dirty/wet!
