Mrs. Smith's 2nd Grade Class
Welcome to our 2nd grade family! I am so excited to have each and every one of you on this adventure into imagination and dreams with me! We are going to have a wonderful year and I cannot wait to get started!
About Mrs. Smith:
I graduated from Millsaps College in 1998 where I earned my BA in Elementary Education with an emphasis on literacy. I believe you can teach most any subject, life lesson, or skill from inside a story. Encouraging children to find their own niche and reading interests is my goal..for if a child can love to read..he/she will succeed! I started my career many years ago in 1st grade, later moving up to 5th grade! It was there I learned the truest art of teaching is relationships. I taught all subjects, later moving to ELA emphasis and even taught all boy classes for two years! I love to find ways to help our young friends learn that reading can be fun and all it takes is finding that perfect book! After leaving the classroom, I spent several years at home with my children, Grace and Harrison. During these years I cultivated my skills by working with preschool children in early literacy. Such fun years! I returned to the school setting as a Literacy Specialist in 2015 where I worked with struggling 3rd graders who needed that little extra time to hone in on their reading strategies. I am very excited to be back in the regular classroom for my second year with 2nd grade. We are gearing up for the best year yet!
Teaching is my passion, but being a wife and mother is my greatest joy! I've been married to Doug Smith for nearly 11 years. We have two beautiful children..Grace is a 5 year old Princess/ballerina/super hero/bug collector who will be starting her own adventure here at MAE in kindergarten! She brings such joy and you will hear about her often! Harrison is my 3rd grader who loves all things science/animal related. He can figure out just about anything with very little help from instruction manuals! I'm sad to see him leave me at lower, but he's off to great things at MAUE this year!
I've enjoyed watching many of your children grow as 1st graders and look forward to exploring great things in 2nd! Here we go!!
