    Welcome Message

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your student to Construction Technology at the Madison Career and Technical Center located at 379 Calhoun Station Parkway in front of Germantown High School in Madison, MS.

    About the Teacher

I am Michael McPhail from Raymond, MS. I am married and have two children. My undergraduate work began at Mississippi State University and I finished the remainder of my studies at Mississippi College and then on to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. I have studied Education at Ole Miss and Belhaven. My family has owned a commercial construction company since 1957 where I grew up learning my trade. I have worked for other companies also but the most experience that I gained was starting my own residential construction company.

I have taught History, Science and am IC3 certified to teach Computer Technology. I've been in the classroom in Texas and Mississippi for many years and look forward each day to coming to MCTC,  where I am able to see the eagerness that my students show to learn, especially since this is an elective course and they have chosen to be here. I strive to have something new each time we meet and I enjoy seeing their eyes light up when they're finally able to understand how to read a tape measure, hammer a nail, build a wall, etc. Students here will learn the basics of construction technology which includes carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and masonry. My second year students concentrate on carpentry only and will build an actual house inside our shop, along with other projects that will develop their skills. Speaking of skills, we are a proud member of Skills USA, a national organization that help students prepare for further training after high school at a trade school, in a four year college, or to simply enter the work force upon high school graduation. We compete against other schools across the state several times a year and hopefully score high enough to go on to nationals. We are also members of the organization MadCAAP, who reach out to underprivileged families throughout Madison County. Our local chapter here at MCTC is called BUILDING HOPE.

I hope you will notice a change in your child's outlook on future plans, and whether or not they attend college or strike out into the job market right out of high school, they will have had a glance into the future of construction as it demands more and more employees each year. Once again, thank you for entrusting your student to me as I know they are your most prized possession.

With great hopes for the future of your teenager,

    Michael R. McPhail Sr.
