                      ¡Bienvenidos, Alumnos!

    Welcome Message

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! ¡Bienvenidos al año académico de 2019-20!

    About the Teacher

I was born in Jackson, MS and graduated from Madison-Ridgeland High School, the public school that served both Madison and Ridgeland before Madison Central opened. Immediately after high school, I attended the University of Southern MS for two years then graduated from Belhaven College. After spending many years on the West Coast, I returned to the Jackson area and began teaching at Madison Central 2015-16. I now live in Ridgeland with my wonderful wife Laurel, my stepson, and our five cats.
I am passionate about languages and cultures, particularly the Spanish language and Latin American cultures. My academic background reflects this passion and includes a variety of humanities disciplines as well as the social science of applied linguistics. I have earned BA's in Humanities and Spanish. I also have an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

In addition to my academic experience, I have personal and professional experience with Spanish speakers and communities. While working on my Spanish degree, I spent three months living and studying Spanish in Madrid, Spain. I spent six months in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I drew on my knowledge of Spanish while teaching English for a private language institute. After leaving Argentina, I spent one month in Valparaíso, Chile. Finally, I have worked with Latinos in the U.S., serving them as a GED and ESL teacher.

In my free time, I enjoy cycling, capoeira (a Brazilian martial art), and gardening.
Coming home has been an amazing experience, and I am excited about giving back to our community through foreign language education.
