Katie Chew is a wife and mother of two boys. With over eleven years of experience working with children to create unique, fun musical adventures, she is still eager to introduce students to a new outlook and understanding of music using a unique combination of education, experience, and love for the arts. Katie is National Board Certified, recently completed Maintenance of Certification, and she mentors National Board candidates. While actively part of the Mississippi Music Educator's Association board, she has served in roles such as: CEU registrar, Elementary Site Chair, and Elementary President. She has served on the MS Textbook Selection Committee and collaborated with other music educators and MDE on music resource documents for music educators. Utilizing an eclectic, engaging classroom energy and teaching style to keep students moving, connecting, and growing, she has taught general music, choir, voice, piano, drama, and recorder. Mannsdale Elementary has enjoyed Katie’s employment for the past 8 years where she enthusiastically welcomes parent and community involvement and collaboration. She strives to connect with her students while also getting to know their unique personalities, learning styles, and individual needs to enrich and personalize each experience. Katie is constantly growing and learning in her profession and looks to continue this into the future.

    ABOUT THE MES MUSIC PROGRAM:

The students at Mannsdale come to Music once a week.  They sing songs, learn traditional dances, create dances/movements, play instruments, learn about the orchestra, study various composers, explore music through literature lessons, experience a wide variety of music styles, and learn to read and write music.  Please check out the school calendar and your child's weekly newsletters for more details on upcoming events and other special announcements. Student links and resources will be posted on the Canvas and Clever student accounts.
