About the Teacher
Major Douglas Welter is the Senior Aerospace Studies Instructor, Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment MS-20022, Ridgeland High School, Ridgeland MS. Major Welter is a 1993 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Program. He has led USAF Security Forces in garrison and in two combat tours in Iraq, including the largest Security Forces unit to conduct combat patrols since the Vietnam War. He has served as a liaison to the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center and the Republic of Korea Air Force and as an advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense. His staff tour at Air Mobility Command included duty as Manager, Security Forces Contingency Response Cell and media relations officer for Exercise CENTRAZBAT 97, the longest airborne operation in history. His staff tour at Air Force Global Strike Command included establishment of the new command and security surveys of potential headquarters locations. Major Welter served as an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor at Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla MO were he advised inbound students on the Reserve Officer Training Corps program and available scholarship and career opportunities. He was also the Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies, specializing in air power history and leadership skills.
