Dear Parents and Students,
I'm so excited to be your 8th grade Language Arts teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. This is my 28th year in education. Twenty of those years were spent as a classroom teacher, and seven years were spent as an assistant principal. This is my 8th year to be at MMS as an ELA teacher. I am also the yearbook sponsor. I've been very blessed to be in every position that I've held.
I am a graduate of Mississippi College, where I earned my BS.Ed and M.Ed in Education(NBPTS was somewhere in between). In 2004, I earned an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. In November 2010, I recertified with the National Board for Professional Standards, and in December 2015, I completed my Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. This year, I'm hoping to work on recertifying as an NBCT; please be looking for more information on this and the required permission slips in order to use your child's experiences in my classroom in my portfolio. I love to learn and want my students to love learning, as well.
Although reared in the city, I'm now a "country girl" with Easter Egger (ლ ')> s and three [ ' ᴥ' ]ies (all rescues except for the chicks). Other than teaching, I enjoy reading, listening to music(K-Love, 2Cellos, & Adam Ben Ezra are THE BEST!!!), biking(when my husband forces me to), and spending time with my family(family movies are our favorites). Our family vacations usually include white water rafting or spelunking. Some of my weaknesses are chi tea lattes and dark chocolate. I've been married 33 years and have three daughters, aged 26, 21, and 17.
This year will be exciting and jam packed with new learning experiences for you AND me!!! I'm thrilled I'll be with you to enjoy them and look forward to learning from you as well. Please don't hesitate to email or call me with any questions, and I'll respond to your email or phone call the minute I can. Assignments are updated on Canvas and this webpage regularly, so please check both often.
