"EDUCATION IS NOT THE FILLING OF A BUCKET, BUT THE LIGHTING OF A FIRE."

    - WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS

    Greetings,

I am so excited about being your child's teacher for the 2024-25 school year. I am committed to maintaining a classroom climate which understands no limits to the achievement and success of each student.  I am eager to meet and greet each student and parent as they become a member of TEAM TITAN.  I encourage parents to get involved immediately with their child's education to ensure that some form of homework or studying is accomplished each night.  Talk with your child; ask to see their assignments; have them explain to you what they are working on.  If you would like to follow along with the content and assignments of your student who will use Canvas, click on the link below: Creating a Parent Account in Canvas.

Parents and students can check student's grades and monitor progress and attendance through the parent and student portals of “Active Parent".  Active Parent can be accessed through our Ridgeland High school website at  www.rhstitans.com. Current school events, announcements, news releases, important information, student recognition and teachers’ websites, can be accessed through the Ridgeland High school website as well. Parents and students will be assigned a password to access active parent.  If you need to access active parent, please contact Mrs. Epps the data records clerk.

     MEET YOUR TEACHER

I'm a native of Tunica, MS and moved here after I received a job offer.   I have been teaching Business courses (9th-12th) for thirty-one years. This year I have been assigned to teach  the  following classes:  CCR B, Entrepreneurship, and Humanities. In each class that I teach, I will incorporate content from the ACT and Personal Finance.  I have been married twenty-eight years.  My husband and I are MSU graduates and love attending MSU football games. I have four children (16, 20, 21, and 26) who constantly keep me motivated. My favorite destination spot is the happiest place in the world. . .Disney World.  In my spare time, I like to visit the spa, read, travel, shop, interior design, paint, shop, and spend time with my family. My biggest wish is to travel to Hawaii.

I charted the first (FBLA) Future Business Leaders of America chapter at Noxubee County High School and Ridgeland High School.  I have been an FBLA adviser since that time. In April 2007, I was elected Mississippi FBLA adviser of the year.  I have served as Coordinator of the Recycling Team at RHS, executive board member of the Mississippi Business Education Association, American Federation of Teachers member, advisory committee for Holmes Community College, PTSO member of New Hope Christian School, PTA Hillcrest Christian School, and affiliations with several other professional organizations.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education at the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters' degree in Instructional Technology at Mississippi State University.  My proudest personal educational accomplishment was receiving National Board Certification in 2004 (recertifying in 2014) and speaking to over 300 attendees at the MS Economic Council conference at the Jackson Convention Center. Being selected by the MS Economic Council to participate as the  teacher in the prestigious Business Advantage program at Else School of Management/Millsaps College was truly an honor and rewarding experience.

Major changes in education have occurred during my years of teaching.  I believe in order to successfully teach, constant “change” is required to stay abreast of the technologies and platforms used in the ever-changing workplace. Because of this, I have been and continue to be involved in seeking professional development training.  The greatest personal satisfaction is seeing a student understand and become excited about his or her learning/knowledge.  I strongly believe that a teacher can make a difference in the life of each student.  I continually strive to improve my classroom teaching and encourage students to develop high personal standards. Working with students has been and continues to be a rewarding experience.I believe that teaching is more than instructing from a textbook.  A teacher must teach by example.  My goal is to equip every student with the necessary skills to function effectively in a rapidly changing technological society.  Well, enough about me.  I’m really excited about getting a chance to work with each of you and expose you to the wonderful classes and opportunities at Ridgeland High School.
