About the Teacher
I am a University of Southern Mississippigraduate with a degree in elementary education. I was fortunate to begin my career in 2001, teaching 2nd grade at MAE. In 2004, I moved to Texas and spent another 8 years teaching 2nd grade. I also spent a year teaching 1st grade in North Carolina. Although I enjoyed both Texas and North Carolina, my heart always felt at home in Mississippi. I returned to MAE in 2012. I received my National Board Certification in 2016 and the Thad Cochran Distinguished Arts Educator Arts Integration award in 2017. I made the move to MAUE and 3rd grade in 2020. I was certified in Gifted Education in 2022, and I am looking forward to the 2024-2025 school year. This will be my 24th year teaching and I look forward to making it the best yet!
I recently got married, so you may know me as Ms. Gillam, and I will still answer to that name if needed. My husband, Chad, is an amazing partner who keeps me laughing. I have two wonderful sons. My oldest is a freshman at Mississippi College, and my youngest is beginning his high school years at Rosa Scott. When I'm not at school, I love hanging out with my family, watching football and baseball, boating, and reading mystery novels.
