It is great to be a JAG! I will be teaching 4th Grade Reading/Language Arts and Social Studies. I received a B.S. in Elementary Education at Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!), and I got my Masters at Belhaven College. I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2001, and I recertified in 2010. This is my tenth year in Madison County, however I have a total of 28 years of experience. I began my teaching career in Natchez, Mississippi, where I taught for 4.5 years. After getting married, I moved to Madison, Mississippi, and began teaching in Jackson Public School District. I worked in JPS for 10.5 years, where I was chosen twice as Spann's "Teacher of the Year," and I received the "Metro Teacher of the Year Award" in 2007. For three years I taught in Madison County School District at East Flora Elementary, and I taught ten years at Mannsdale Upper Elementary, where I received Mannsdale "Teacher of the Year" in 2016. I have served on the Mississippi Reading Association Board for 10 years, where I have served as secretary, Vice President, and President.
I have been married to my husband, James, for 24 years. We have one precious son, Lehmann, who will be going off to start his college career at UAB (University of Alabama Birmingham) where he is majoring in neuroscience. Our family would not be complete without our furry friends, Sean (cat) and Bethany (black lab).
During my free time I love to read mysteries, do arts and crafts, and gardening. I am addicted to Pinterest, Coke Zero/Diet Cokes, and "Law and Order" reruns. I love watching football and cheering on my Louisiana teams, LSU and the Saints! When LSU is not playing, I cheer for my adopted Mississippi team, MSU. Go DAWGS!
It is GREAT day to be a JAG at Madison Avenue Upper Elementary! I look forward to a great year!
