Congratulations on your student’s decision to enroll in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps or as it is most often referred to as AFJROTC. The AFJROTC programs at Madison Central High School and Rosa Scott 9th Grade High School are a four-year progressive academic course, which is open to all students in the ninth through twelfth grades. The program is designed to maximize your student’s patriotic understanding, and their followership and leadership skills. The AFJROTC courses involve the study of aeronautics, military and world history, human behavior, management, communication skills, and individual leadership development. In addition, we will take field trips to military facilities and museums, and possibly fly on some military aircraft. The field trips and flights are not mandatory and no one is required to participate.AFJROTC is a citizenship program. AFJROTC is not a recruiting program for the military services and your student does not have to serve in the military unless they choose to do so after completing high school. If your student elects to join the military after completing high school and has three or more years in the AFJROTC program, he or she could receive a higher rank and pay upon entry into the service. In addition, successful completion of our program will greatly enhance a student’s chances of obtaining an AFJROTC college scholarship or an appointment to one of the five U.S. Military Service Academies.
