Welcome to the 2022-23 school year at GMS, and thank you for your interest in our National Junior Beta Club chapter! The National Beta Club is the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. For more than 80 years, it has prepared today's students to be tomorrow's leaders. Its mission statement is:

To promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service, and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.

ACHIEVEMENT - Recognizing and honoring high academic achievement
CHARACTER - Preparing young people for life and empowering them to be successful
LEADERSHIP - Developing the leaders of tomorrow
SERVICE - Demonstrating our motto: Let Us Lead by Serving Others

To be eligible to join GMS Beta, you must meet one of the following:

    1) If you were a member last year who met all requirements by completing assignments in Canvas as well as completing your service projects, then you already received an email in August with updates about requirements and returning-member dues payable via My School Bucks by September 30, 2022. You will not be an active Beta member again this year unless the fee is paid by the end of September.

    2) 7th graders and 8th graders who earned all A's last school year but were not Beta members are also eligible to join by paying the new member fee on My School Bucks. Please email Ms. Sarah Brook (sbrook@madison-schools.com) before September 30, 2022, for more information.

    3) 6th graders who earn all A's for term 1 will become eligible to join after receiving an invitation via school email from the Beta Club sponsors. After reading the information and expectations (especially regarding service hours), students need to pay the new member fee on My School Bucks to be added to the club roster as well as the Canvas course. Please email Ms. Sarah Brook (sbrook@madison-schools.com) before November 1, 2022, for more information.

Once dues are paid, you will be added to Beta Club Canvas Course where we will communicate about upcoming meetings, service projects, etc.

7th-grade and 8th-grade members are required to complete at least 4 different service projects totaling 10 hours or more of work before the end of the school year; however, because 6th graders are not eligible to join until after term 1, they will be required to complete at least 3 service projects totaling 7 hours or more of work before the end of the school year. The service form (an Excel sheet that will be filled out electronically instead of on paper this year) can be found in the "service projects" module in Canvas.

All information about service opportunities, monthly meetings, and other activities will be in our Canvas course, and announcements will also be sent through the Remind app (to receive messages, click here or text "@betamavs" to 81010).

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Sarah Brook, lead sponsor

    Mrs. Elizabeth Hancock, sponsor
