VISUAL ARTS DEPARTMENT INSTRUCTOR
WELCOME To The 2021-2022 School Year:
THIS YEAR'S ART CLASSES WILL PRIMARILY FOCUS ON THE BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FONDATION OF ART I AND ART II CURRICULUM COURSES FOR 9TH GRADE STUDENTS.
VISUAL ARTS I & II is opened FOR 9TH Grade Students in the ART DEPARTMENT. These classes are Foundation Based, Comprehensive Art courses meeting a general requirement for the invitational young Artist that assists in understanding the Art Elements and Principles of Art production. Additionally, learning how to see in a Direct observational experience, ( it helps to establish prerequisites for Advanced studies) Skill Building and additionally Designed to Prep students for AP 2D DESIGN ART, III, IV; AP Drawing, 2D Design and Printmaking Techniques. Additionally, the Art Courses are designed to enhance, heightened and challenge student's Visual and Hands-on Abilities through activities that shall help develop skills to a level that reveals creativity, confidence and creative awareness through a wide range of media choices, explorations and techniques. It is through my philosophy and experience that Art exists as a route for students to define, develop and find confidence in themselves through creativity and unimaginable talents. This school year will look a bit differently in terms of Instructions and how Instructions will be given through COVID-19 COMPLIANCE. MASK will be required at all times during Class as we will follow all MCSD guidelines as well as MDE AND MDH. Updates on Courses, weekly assignments and Homework will be announced and found in Canvas.
Homework will be issued as a Sketch Assignment every Monday for the following Friday's assignment. Students of grades 10th & 12th are instructed on the specific subject or composition for the specific Friday assignment. This year, a sketchbook is required for all 9th Grade Art students for Homework assignments; Art related assignments, promote skills and growth and to retain as future references. The sketch assignments will count as 34% of the student's average unless noted or posted differently.

I have been teaching for 28 plus years between the Jackson and Madison School Districts. With a BA Degree in Studio And Visual Arts and Photography From Tougaloo College, Tougaloo MS, -- Master of Science, Educational Administration and Supervision Leadership (With License Endorsement 486N Administrator), Jackson State University, Jackson MS; I've additionally obtained A Master Printers Certification in Photography and Printmaking, Savannah College of Art And Design, Savannah GA.
Supervisory Training Course for Teachers-- University of Southern MS, Middle School Administrator Over Bus Supervision, Discipline And Monitoring; Advanced Placement (AP) Certification in Studio Art through The College Board, Raymond MS, Certified in Art K-12 and Visual and Performing Arts K-12.
I am married to a supportive lady that has helped to encourage and accept me as an Educator after three (3) decades of teaching. We have (3) children, A 34 yr. old daughter who is a 2007 Graduate of USM, Hattiesburg; A 29 yr old daughter who is a 2007 Graduate of Madison Central and a 2010 graduate of Tougaloo College; A son who is a 2011 Graduate of Madison Central and a 2015 Graduate of Jackson State University.
It is my objective to introduce and bring out the undiscovered level of creativity and ability in a student and allow them to be as amazed as they were doubtful.
