*WE CARE BOX
This school year we will be introducing a new source of communication between students and the GHS counselors. There are We Care QR Codes located around the school in the hallways, outside of the Library, on the daily announcements, and in the restrooms for students to scan the QR Code to submit a concern. The We Care Form is utilized in order to be a confidential source of communication between students and the GHS Counselors in order for students to be able to report other students who are in need, a danger to themselves or others, or any other concerns that a student may have. Concerns that are submitted are taken very seriously – please only make a report if you have a legitimate concern! Reports can be made anonymously; however, it is very helpful to have the name of the person reporting the information, in the event more information is needed. Please use the QR Code to access the We Care Form if you have a concern that needs to be reported.

*Junior ACT at GHS:
We will give the ACT to all Juniors at Germantown High School during the school day on October 17, 2023 and February 27, 2024.
*SCHEDULE CHANGES:
You will meet one-on-one every January with a guidance counselor to choose your courses for the upcoming school year. You are urged to take your course selection process VERY seriously. Get maximum information for your decisions at this time since changing your selections after the fact will be very difficult.Your counselor will review the choices, check prerequisites and consider graduation requirements as well as college requirements. Failure to choose the correct course could result in frustration for you later!
Madison County has a NO DROP POLICY on scheduled classes. Absolutely no change of schedules will be made except for administrative/academic purposes.
*NEWSLETTERS:
Another way to communicate with our students is through newsletters. These newsletters offer important test dates, scholarships, upcoming events and other pertinent information. Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will receive newsletters two times a year (we issue them with 1st and 3rd term Report Cards). Seniors are issued newsletters once a month at the beginning of the month. Extra copies are always available in the Counselor’s Office and on our Canvas page.
*REPORT CARDS AND PROGRESS REPORTS:
All report cards and progress reports will be given to students at school. It may be helpful for parents to write down the dates and ask your child for the report when he/she gets home! The final report card in May will be mailed to your home. Therefore,if your mailing address has changed, please come by the Counseling office to provide the appropriate residency information.
*PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES:
Parents, anytime you want to meet with your child's teachers, please do not hesitate to contact your child's counselor. Don't forget we encourage you to stay in close contact with your child's teachers via telephone or e-mail as well!
*ACTIVE PARENT REGISTRATION:
Parents may now access your student’s weekly class averages, attendance, schedule and school news information by setting up an Active Parent Online account. *GHS COLLEGE VISIT DAYS:
NO COLLEGE VISIT DAYS ALLOWED IN AUGUST OR MAY. Also, please avoid any 9 weeks or semester exam times.
Students who are classified as juniors will be permitted ONE excused college day during their junior year. These visits should be used during the months of September through April. Students are encouraged to call the Office of Admissions of the college/university, in which they plan to visit, and set up an appointment time. Once a date is obtained, students should submit a request in writing one week prior to the scheduled visit. Forms can be picked up from the Counselor’s Office. In order for the absence to be excused, the student must present a signed college visitation form upon his/her return to school. Visitation forms are generally available on all college campuses. This visitation form must be on the college’s letterhead and include the student’s name and date of attendance signed by a school official. A college day absence will not count against exam exemption.
The College Visit Day policy is as stated:
1. As stated in the Madison County Schools High School Handbook, “students who are classified as juniors will be permitted one excused college days during their junior year. Students wishing to make a college visit should submit a request in writing one week prior to the scheduled visit”. GHS juniors need to pick up a college visitation form from the Counselor’s Office; have a parent fill it out and sign it; and return it to his/her counselor according to the above time frame. The counselor will keep the original college visitation form on file, place the official school seal on a copy and return it to the student.
2. The student will then be responsible for missed work and must be made up.
3. While the student in on campus visiting, it is his/her responsibility to acquire a note on official college letterhead that states that he/she actually did attend. This note must be brought to the GHS counselor upon their return. The counselor will keep the official letter from the college. If this form is not returned, the day will not count as a College Day and the missed day will count against the student's exemptions.
