Gibbs, Helen / About Me

My husband and I have lived in Madison since 2015 and have two children, Nora and Jonah. We also have two pets at home, Shep (a fluffy white and orange cat) and Biscuit (a golden retriever). I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Southern Mississippi and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. I have taught in a variety of educational settings and classrooms, including being an instructor at the Birmingham Zoo! These experiences have formed who I am as a teacher. I believe that learning should be a fun, hands-on experience for every child here. Before I came to Avenue Upper, I was directing St. Matthew's Weekday Ministry and the Children’s Ministry at St. Matthew's UMC. I love to see kids grow academically, but also as people.
