• Week of October 22nd:

     Monday:

    1. Chomp and Daily Dose 37
    2. Finish essay and email to Mrs. Hancock (ehancock@madison-schools.com
    3. Read the background information – “Meet Lizzie Borden” 
    4. Handout the “News Story Analysis Guide” sheet and go over it with the students. They will use this for every article in the unit, so they MUST keep it in their binder.
    5. Introduce and hand out the evidence chart (they will fill in a few pieces of evidence from each article)
    6. Students should read article 1 and follow the analysis guide sheet.
    7. Students should also fill in the evidence chart that they will keep in their binder
    8. Students complete the multiple-choice questions and turn in for a DG

     

    Tuesday:

    1. Chomp and Daily Dose 38
    2. Review the directions for the “News Story Analysis Guide” which will be completed for each article in the unit
    3. Students complete article 2
    4. Go over the questions/answers with the key (class discussion)
    5. Fill in evidence chart in binders/share
    6. Students complete the multiple-choice questions and turn in for a DG

     

    Wednesday:

    2. Review the directions for the “News Story Analysis Guide” which will be completed for each article in the unit
    3. Students complete article 5
    4. Go over the questions/answers with the key (class discussion)
    5. Fill in evidence chart in binders/share
    6. Students complete the multiple-choice questions and turn in for a DG

     

     

     *I will give back the article after I have graded the multiple-choice questions. They will need these articles to complete an activity later in the unit. Also, the evidence chart will be taken up at the end of the unit for a daily grade.

     

     

    Week of October 15th:

     

    Monday:

    1. Chomp and Daily Dose 32
    2. Take Daily Dose Quiz for 21-30 (Mastery Connect)
    3. Read Aloud “The Boarded Window” – for a 2ndread
    4. Stop to discuss any student annotations from Friday when they read it alone
    5. Students complete the “Story Grammar” sheet using the short story (finish for homework if they do not finish in class) 

     

    Tuesday:

    1. Chomp and Daily Dose 33
    2. Students share parts of the “Story Grammar” sheet aloud (daily grade)
    3. Hand out and go over the “theme” PowerPoint
    4. Share the “Boarded Window” themes
    5. Theme practice worksheet 

     

    Wednesday:

    1. Chomp and Daily Dose 34
    2. Introduce the personal narrative prompt
    3. Handout and go over the rubric – I will grade based on this rubric – will be a quiz grade
    4. Begin the narrative planning worksheet

     

    Thursday: *Report cards go out today 

    1. Chomp and Daily Dose 35
    2. Finish the planning worksheet
    3. Begin composing the narrative (they will sign in to their email account and type the essay in Word)

     

    Friday:

    1. Chomp and Daily Dose 36
    2. Finish Essay
    3. Peer editing
    4. If they have time, they can correct their essays using the suggestions from their peers. They will have about 20 minutes to finish on Monday, then email it to me (ehancock@madison-schools.com) This will be a quiz grade
