Master's Elementary Education from Mississippi College
Mrs. Laura Morris
WELCOME to first grade!!
My name is Laura Morris and I’m excited to be your child’s teacher! I have a master’s degree from Mississippi College in Elementary Education. Through the years at Madison Crossing, I have taught Kindergarten for four years and this year will be my tenth year in first grade. For twenty-one years I’ve had the privilege to teach various grades (K-8), in three different school districts throughout central Mississippi.
This year our school theme is Sweet Home Madison Crossing. First grade has chosen to put a baseball twist on this theme. My desire is for all my students to feel like Mrs. Morris’ Dugout is his/her home away from home (a safe place where mistakes ARE learning opportunities). In my dugout, there may be times where your child may experience a strike out, base hit, or fly ball, but with each swing he/she will learn more about their inner determination, coaches, and teammates. During this game of learning, I will encourage, give new strategies, set goals, and work together with your child towards a win (academic and social success)! One of my biggest goals as the coach of the team is to foster a life-long JOY for learning. As your child’s coach (teacher), I will strive daily to help him/her grow in knowledge, independence, confidence, and citizenship. I’m AMAZED every year to see how much students accomplish in such a short amount of time with hard work and support! As both a parent and professional, I am committed to your child’s continued growth. There is nothing like watching students hit a grand slam (soar beyond expectations to reach their fullest potential)!!!
My husband, Prentiss, and I have been married now for twenty years. We have two children, Kathryn (10th grade at GHS) and Sam (7th grade at GMS). We are currently in the process of expanding our family through adoption. This process can take anywhere from 12-18 months. While we wait, pray, and continue mountains of paperwork, my family enjoys spending time together at Maverick football games, family movie/game nights, and church activities. We are members of Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Ridgeland, where I serve in the nursery and my husband teaches 8thgrade boys and serves as a deacon. We feel blessed to live in Madison where our schools and community value children and families!
I look forward to winning the World Series with you and your child this year!
