NHS Discipline/Dismissal Procedures
Twice a year academic records, discipline records
and service records will be checked.
Academics - All GPA’s must stay above
94.00. If GPA’s fall below this standard, the student will be issued a written
warning and placed on probation. They will have one semester to raise their GPA
to meet the standard. If not met in one semester, the student may be dismissed
from membership by majority vote of the faculty council. A student wishing to appeal dismissal may
request in writing a hearing before the faculty council. No request for appeals
will be honored after 5 school days following the date of the letter of
dismissal.
Character – discipline records will be
checked
Discipline records – any recorded
infraction will be deemed as a minor or major infraction.
Minor Infractions - Members will receive written
notice of a warning for the infraction. Any further infractions may result in
probation or a hearing for dismissal by the faculty council.
Major infractions – do not need a letter of
warning. Major infractions may result in an immediate hearing of faculty
council to decide if the circumstances warrant dismissal.
Service: Chapter Service
Projects – several chapter service projects will be scheduled throughout the
year. Members are expected to participate in at least 2 of these projects each
semester. A sign in sheet will be kept at each event.
Failure to meet these requirements will be
referred to the NHS Faculty Council who will determine what additional service
activity may be required. If this additional requirement is not met
in one semester and/or a member fails to complete the required 2 projects a
second time, a student may be dismissed from NHS. No request for appeals will
be honored after 5 school days following the date of the letter of dismissal.
