  • Kirkland Awarded Mississippi Secondary School Principal of the Year

    Students heading back to school at Velma Jackson High School this year will be greeted by Mississippi’s Secondary School Principal of the Year, Mr. Carey Kirkland. Beginning his fourth year as lead principal of VJHS, Mr. Kirkland was honored at the Mississippi Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) conference this summer with its highest annual recognition. He will represent Mississippi at the national conference in Washington, D.C., in September.  Read more

    MacBook Deployment Schedule

    • Monday, August 19, 2019: Freshmen & New Enrollees
    • Monday, August 19, 2019: Make Up for Grades 10th, 11th and 12th

     

    Requirements to receive a MacBook

    • Registration Completed
    • Technology Agreement Form (signed & dated by the parent during registration)
    • No fines (library books, MacBook, textbooks, 9th Grade Chromebook, etc.)
    • $50 usage fee (cash or online payment – MySchoolBucks

    Parents have the opportunity to view their student's school attendance and grades by signing up for "Active Parent".  Registration forms are available by clicking here or in the counselor's office.   There is no need to reapply if you have previously signed up for Active Parent.

    Reporting Lost or Stolen Laptops
     
    Students will be allowed to keep their MacBook Air laptops during the summer.  Please be aware that we will not be providing technical assistance during this time.  If your laptop is lost or stolen, you will need to contact the police immediately and fill out the Theft Form to report it to school administration.   Parent/guardian will be responsible for full replacement cost of laptop if not reported to MCS personnel within calendar 3 days of missing the device.

    Online payments are a simple, safe and secure way to make payments to your students account 24 hours a day at your convenience. Madison County Schools Child Nutrition Department utilizes My School Bucks for online meal payments.
