Partial View of the Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017, Mississippi will enjoy a partial view of the solar eclipse beginning at 11:54 a.m. and ending at 1:45 p.m.  This is the first total solar eclipse visible in the United States since 1979, and it must be viewed with proper eye protection (glasses with ISO 12312-2 protection level) to avoid any temporary or permanent eye damage.  Regular or prescription sun glasses will not offer sufficient protection.

With the safety of our students in mind, Madison County Schools will follow the procedures outlined below during the eclipse period, click here to read more details.

    Welcome to Our District

Welcome to the website for Madison County Schools. With nearly 13,000 students, we are the fifth largest school district in the state of Mississippi. Madison County Schools is the highest scoring county school district in Mississippi to achieve an "A" rating based on the statewide accountability model.

Our motto is “Madison County Schools: Mark of Excellence!” We are strongly committed to offering a challenging education, and that commitment is very evident in the programs and opportunities available to our children. Our goal is not only to help each child reach his or her fullest potential; but also for each child to excel.

Our district has initiated a 1:M (One To Many) laptop program at the high school level, block scheduling in the middle schools, ICT/STEM course offerings beginning in 6th grade, and instituted the first administration of the ACT test to all 11th graders, onsite at the District’s high schools, at no charge to students. Our focus on “Motivate, Educate and Graduate” resulted in over 90% of the 2015 senior class graduating on time.

As you peruse our website, we hope you will find a great deal of helpful information about Madison County Schools’ programs, activities, and upcoming events.

    Yours in Education,

    Ronnie L. McGehee, Ph. D.
