§  Lunch Menu: Honey Roasted BBQ Chicken, New Orleans Dirty Rice, Roll, Orange Glazed Carrots and Collard Greens

 

§  Congratulations to Legacy's Jonathan Cheeks for receiving the "Best Male Vocalist" award at the National A Cappella Competition on April 21st. Legacy received an award for being a National Finalist and received Masterclasses from some of the top acappella experts in the country. Congrats to Legacy and Jonathan!!!!

 

§  ARCHERY TRYOUTS:  April 25-28, You will be taught to shoot the first 2 days and then tryout on the third day.  Tryouts are from 3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Please pick up flier in the front office for more details.  Updated physical required.

 

§  Auditions for Maverick Singers, Cheval and Legacy will be held April 3rd-April 28th. Students interested in being in Maverick Singers will need to sing "Happy Birthday". Cheval and Legacy will need to pick up a piece from Mrs. Owens and prepare it on their own. Legacy will have final auditions May 1st-4th. Stop by Mrs. Owens' room (403 - Fine Arts) to pick up an audition packet and schedule an audition time. Email Mrs. Owens if you have any questions. cowens@madison-schools.com

GENERAL

 

§  Maverick Singers will be presenting their Spring Concert on Thursday April 27th. Everyone is invited. Admission is Free.

 

§  Beginning Monday, May 1, all unpaid fees must be paid in cash, no checks will be accepted.

 

§  SENIOR AWARDS DAY:

     SENIORS:  May 5 at 10:00 a.m.

     (Seniors:  please see website for attire)

 

§  Juniors and Seniors: Please remember that there are NO College visits allowed in May. Please plan accordingly.

 

§  FREE ATHLETIC PHYSICAL:  Saturday, May 13; Times are 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Capital Orthopedics in Madison.

 

§  AP Students

      AP testing rosters are outside the counselors' office. Please run by and make sure your name is under the correct tests. If there is an error please notify one of the ladies sitting at the front          desk in the counselors' office.

 

 

 

 

 

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

 

 

§  The Women Empowered Leadership Conference (WE Lead) is looking for current sophomore and junior females who strive take on the role of leaders in their communities. The conference will be held on Mississippi State University's campus July 10-14th in the Shackouls Honors College and Nunnelee Residence Hall. The cost to attend is $50 and includes housing, dining, t-shirts, and activity fees. If you would like to attend, please register atwelead.msstate.edu.

 

§  The University of Mississippi Outreach to Scholastic Talent (MOST) Conference registration opens April 4th at 9:00 AM, and priority registration ends April 18th. The MOST Conference is an exclusive leadership and recruitment conference for rising African-American seniors (Class of 2018). The conference will take place July 16-18th on the Ole Miss Oxford campus. The conference is free of charge. All materials, food, and overnight accommodations will be provided to participants. Participants ARE responsible for transportation to and from Oxford. Selected participants will be notified before May 15th. To register, please go to www.olemiss.edu/most2017.

 

§  Attention Sophomore and Juniors: If you have a desire to be considered for Early College classes here at GHS for the 2017-18 school year and were not eligible but you have become eligible, please visit the counselor's website for information on how to sign up. Students must have a 3.0 and an 18 on the ACT with parent's written permission given to the counselor by May 30, 2017.

 

 

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

 

 

§  Seniors: Regions Bank is offering possible scholarships to students who participate in their Black History Month Essay contest. More information may be found on the counselor's scholarship page.

 

§  Seniors: The Mississippi Municipal League is proud to announce the annual MML Scholarship Program. The MML General Scholarship is open to all high school seniors and is co-sponsored by Mississippi Power Company. The MML Limited Scholarship is open to children or grandchildren of employees or elected officials of Mississippi municipalities and to high school seniors working part time for a member municipality of the Mississippi Municipal League and is co-sponsored by Phelps Dunbar. The Mississippi Municipal Service Company Limited Scholarship is open to children or grandchildren of employees or elected officials of Mississippi municipalities that are members of the Mississippi Municipal Liability Plan or the Mississippi Municipal Workers' Compensation Group. More information may be found on the Counselor's webpage and the deadline is May 12, 2017.
