Each year, the State Legislature appropriates money that students can apply for to go to college.  State of Mississippi Financial Aid information and application is found at www.mississippi.edu/financialaid. Below are the scholarships for undergraduates.  You only need to complete one application.  Each scholarship requires different supporting information.

 

HELP (Higher Education Legislative Plan)
This program is designed to provide tuition assistance to qualified students whose financial need, as demonstrated by federal student aid eligibility, will not be met with gift aid from other sources. Deadlines are important as the number of awards and recipients are dependent upon available funds.

Deadlines:

·         Supporting Documents (including certified curriculum – YOU MUST REQUEST THAT A TRANSCRIPT BE SENT OR NOTIFY YOUR COUNSELOR TO VERIFY YOUR CURRICULUM. NOTE THE DEADLINE.): April 30

Eligibility requirements for the high school senior:

·         Be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi for two years prior to application deadline

·         Have a high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale

·         Have scored a minimum of a 20 on the National ACT. Scores for the state eligibility are automatically sent from ACT to the State of Mississippi Office of Financial Aid

·         Have completed a specific high school core curriculum ; this includes 2 years of the same foreign language and chemistry. YOU MUST REQUEST THAT A TRANSCRIPT BE SENT OR NOTIFY YOUR COUNSELOR TO VERIFY YOUR CURRICULUM. NOTE THE DEADLINE OF APRIL 30.

·         Meet income limitations

·         Demonstrate need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

·         Be accepted and enrolled full-time at an approved postsecondary institution in Mississippi

·         Must be pursuing first certificate, first associate or first bachelors degree

·         Completed HELP Worksheet (also referred to as the Household Verification Worksheet)

·         Signed copies of the first two pages of the following four (4) tax return documents:
Federal AND State tax returns for the prior and current tax filing year
NOTE: Dependent student's should provide parent's tax returns

·         Those that are not required to file a tax return must submit a non tax filer form for the applicable year(s):

Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG)

This program is designed to provide financial aid assistance to Mississippi residents attending state approved public and nonprofit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities in the state.

·         Eligibility Requirements for Entering Freshman:

·         Be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi for one year prior to application

·         Have a high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale or GED certificate (submit copy of GED test scores and GED certificate) or completion of Home School program (submit signed transcript of 9th through 12th grades)  YOUR GPA IS AUTOMATICALLY SENT TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI OFFICE OF FINACIAL AID BY MCHS OFFICE OF STUDENT SERVICES; NO TRANSCRIPT IS REQUIRED FOR A REGULAR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE, ONLY THE OFFICIAL SUBMISSION OF GPA.

·         Have scored a minimum of a 15 on the National ACT. Scores for the state eligibility are automatically sent from ACT to the State of Mississippi Office of Financial Aid

·         Be accepted and enrolled full-time at an approved postsecondary institution in Mississippi

·         Receive less than the full Federal Pell Grant as determined by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid uses the latest version of the results of the FAFSA process to determine an applicant's Pell Grant eligibility.

·         Must be pursuing first certificate, first associate or first bachelors degree

Award Amount
MTAG awards may be up to $500.00 per academic year for freshmen and sophomores and $1,000 per academic year for juniors and seniors.

AES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:    
  • GPA (high, but not the main focus)
  • Main critieria:  Applicant's character as determined by evaluation of the submitted essay.
  • Essay of no more than 1000 words based on the following questions:  What are your dreams for your future? When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?
  • Award:  $500
  • You are NOT required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.

University of Mississippi
Luckyday Scholarship

The Luckyday Scholarship Program awards from $8,000 to $20,000 per eligible student for four years of undergraduate study.  Because it is designed to bridge the gap between an individual student's obligation and assistance from other scholarships and grants, the amount of each Luckyday Scholarship varies.

To be considered for the Luckyday Scholarship, all interested students must select the Luckyday option when completing the University of Mississippi's entering Freshman Scholarship application.  The priority deadline for completing the scholarship application is January 15, 2013.  (posted 10/22/12)

The Madison-Ridgeland Rotary Club's Annual Scholarship

As a service club, the Madison-Ridgeland Rotary Club uses this scholarship to encourage students to look for opportunities to serve their comunity.  It also seeks to make them aware of the rewards that come from this service.

Criteria:   Write a short essay.  The essay will be judged by a panel of Rotarians who will only know the essayist as "Student A", "Student B", etc.

The Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program (METP) is a collaboration between the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and Mississippi State University (MSU) to attract top-performing students to an innovative new teacher education program using one of the most valuable scholarships ever offered in the state.

The goal is to train new English and mathematics teachers for Mississippi. Each METP fellow makes a five-year commitment to teach at a Mississippi public school after graduation. Both MSU and Ole Miss will accept 20 fellows (10 math and 10 English) for fall 2013.

The men of Rho Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, a non-profit organization located in Canton, MS, is embarking upon its First Annual Scholarship Banquet on April 27, 2013.

 

The Banquet is an event that offers scholarships to young men who are juniors and seniors in public and private high schools in Madison, Canton, and Lexington areas of Mississippi. Rho Xi Lambda’s Spring Banquet is an opportunity to enrich the lives of young African-American males through social, cultural, spiritual and intellectual interactions with others.

Aura Neely-Gary Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2007 in memory of Mrs. Gary and her strong commitment to education and self-improvement.  The annual scholarship is based on merit and need to a male or female student planning to enter a college or university in Mississippi.

Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program
 
METP, along with MSU and Ole Miss, is offering a teaching scholarship.  The initial focus is to train English and mathematics teachers for Mississippi.
The benefits include:
  • Full tuition
  • An annual housing allowance
  • A $6,000 study abroad opportunity
  • A tablet computer.

Trustmark and our PTO have presented our Class of 2013 with a new first-time scholarship offer.   The objective of the scholarship is to grant scholarship monies to deserving students who have outstanding qualities of character, loyalty, service to school and community, and leadership skills.

The Ebony Pearls Foundation, Incorporated, serves as the financial component of Rho Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
