Accelerated Reader Program

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program designed to create excitement for reading and to continually guide students to books that will maximize growth. The student is tested on STAR to assign an individualized reading range represented by a COLOR DOT on each AR book. After selecting and reading an appropriate level book, students take a quiz on a school computer. They will accumulate points based on personal goals.

First and Second Grade begins after Labor Day.

Kindergarten officially begins in January.

READING LEVEL COLOR DOTS:

Red Dot ……………………. 0.1-0.9

Blue Dot ……………………. 1.0-1.9

Yellow Dot ……………… 2.0-2.9

Green Dot ………………. 3.0-3.9

Orange Dot …………….. 4.0-4.9

Neon Green Dot …….. 5.0-5.9

Hot Pink Dot …………….6.0-6.9

· Check out a book with an AR dot in the library

· Read the book several times

· Go to a school computer

· Log-0n to AR Student to take the quiz

· Each quiz is worth points

Recognition

For Nine Weeks Goal-Reachers

Your picture will be displayed on the AR bulletin board in the hall outside the library door.

You may check out an extra book every time you come to the library!!

You will be invited to attend the Secret Circus Event at the end of each nine weeks.
