Welcome to Ridgeland High SchoolDear Students and Parents, Welcome to the 2012 – 2013 schoolyear! I am proud to serve as principalof Ridgeland High School. Since itsestablishment in 2002, Ridgeland High School boasts a strong heritage of highstandards and excellence in all arenas. All students are encouraged to participate in one or more activitieswhether that is AP and honors classes, sports, drama, forensics, choir or ahost of volunteer organizations. Weconcluded last school year with a National Poetry Out Loud Champion, a NationalMerit Semi-Finalist and State championships in soccer and tennis. We are joined by a host of new, dynamic faculty members this year. Theseadditions are sure to strengthen our already outstanding faculty. Please help us make our new students andteachers feel welcomed. Please join us for our PTO open house on Tuesday, August 21 at6:15pm. It will be an excellentopportunity to meet our new faculty and all of your child’s teachers. I want students to know that theyare going to have many opportunities throughout the year and I really want toencourage them to take advantage of these chances. All students have the opportunity to takerigorous and challenging courses. Participation in these classes will prepare them not to just get into thecollege of their choice but to get through college. Success in college is built on strong workethic not natural ability. They alsohave the opportunity to get involved in extra-curricular activities andcommunity service. When students areinvolved in extra-curricular activities they have more fun and they experiencemore academic success. Community serviceis another great way to give back to our community and it will only enhancetheir college application. As principal, it is my strongdesire to have each of my nearly 900 students excel in academics, athletics andextra-curricular activities. We assureALL students that they can find their place at Ridgeland High School. Thanks to all of our parents fortheir continued commitment to their children’s education. We are fortunate to have such an incrediblysupportive community. I do want toremind our parents that we encourage students to take rigorous courses and withthat rigor we do know that students will face difficult challenges. Learning how to overcome these challenges isa skill that our students will need as they go through life. Please support your children and assist themin overcoming the challenges they will face. Meeting and mastering these challenges will make each of them morecapable in the future. We anticipate this year beingfilled with more success than ever for every student, staff member, and parentat Ridgeland High School. As always, It’s a Great Day to be a Titan! Mrs. Sharon D. Summers |
