Welcome to Third Grade!

My name is Marae Rigby and I am so excited that you are a part of our Madison Station family!  There is so much for us to learn in third grade!

All About Me

This is my twentieth year to teach - all of them have been at Madison Station!  I taught 4th grade for ten years and 2nd grade for one year.  This is my seventh year to teach 3rd grade and I just love it!.  I have two grown children who are both graduates of Madison County schools and of Mississippi State University.  My husband, Jim, and I have lived in Madison for, well, since it was a small town - 30 years!  I look forward to an exciting and successful year with you and your children!
We will be implementing Common Core full force this year and will be doing a lot of critical thinking and problem solving on a much deeper level than in past years. Our reading curriculum involves a wealth of fiction and nonfiction texts and we will be practicing finding information and proving our answers. Reading is such an important part of you child's education. Without a good foundation in literacy, our children will find themselves handicapped in the real adult world. Please encourage reading in your children! Being an example of a lover of reading is one of the best things you can do for your child. Find time each day to read for and/or with you child and I promise you will both reap the benefits!
Part of the Common Core curriculum requires that third graders are FLUENT in multiplication and division facts. We will be spending a lot of time with this also beginning in the 2nd nine weeks. Please practice these facts at home with your child! They will be using this knowledge from now on in their education and knowing them fluently will help them immeasureably!
I feel so blessed to be a part of your child's third grade year and I'm looking forward to getting to know them and you!  It's going to be a fun-filled year full of new learning experiences!
